Do Pheromones Work?

A 7 day study of attractant was undertaken by a group of third year chemistry students from the University of Canterbury. A control group was set up and rotated. Every day half of the ten volunteers would be sprayed with genuine attractant . The other half were sprayed with a non functional mix of water and alcohol. The subjects were unaware from day to day if they had been sprayed with attractant or the decoy spray. Each day the subjects were to keep a diary of unusual female contact. The subjects goal was to try and calculate the days they had been wearing attractant and the days they had been wearing the decoy. The study was a fantastic success for the scientific proof that attractant really works. Whilst there was an overall increase in the male/female interaction (proving the placebo effect) the students managed to distinguish the days wearing attractant successfully 77% of the time.
